Hiemer & Company Stained Glass Studio was formed as a partnership between Edward Hiemer and his father Georg in Columbus, Ohio, when the firm of Von Gerhicten disbanded due to the stock market crash. The two artists had apprenticed in Munich, Germany, and worked for that branch of the Von Gerhicten Studios before relocating to Ohio. Edward took on the business end of the operation and Georg became the designing artist. 

History

     Due to her expertise as a Liturgical Designer and lifelong involvement in the craft, Judith's primary focus is new stained glass. With over 24 years of experience, James is the primary sales representative specializing in the repair, restoration, and maintenance aspects of stained glass and window systems. Since the firm's primary market is religious communities, there is a strong commitment to accurate 

         a new location in Clifton, NJ, where operations continue to this day. Upon the death of Edi in 1969, Gerry became president and successfully ran the studio until his eldest daughter, Judith, expressed an interest in continuing the family tradition.      The studio relocated to Paterson, NJ, to be closer to the firm's primary market; the Catholic Church. From Boston to Washington, DC, and into central Pennsylvania, the Catholic Church experienced a boon of building, and the Hiemer Studio was at the center of it all. Edward's son, Gerhard, served his apprenticeship with the firm and as a teenager helped the studio set up

BS in Business at Bryant University, and continuing artistic studies at Parson's School of Design, she was named President of the firm. As Gerry's involvement in the firm declined, Judith was joined by her husband, James Van Wie, to continue managing the firm.
